THE STORY

Located in Huntsville’s Twickenham district on the historic site of the former Huntsville Hotel, 106 Jefferson Hotel is a modern space that honors it’s storied past. Huntsville, Alabama was known as a cotton town until the government established Redstone Arsenal, which was later chosen as the site for U.S. missile research program, propelling the sleepy town into the international space race. From custom paintings of Able & Baker, a pair of monkeys sent to space in 1959, to a graphic reinterpretation of the classic silent film ‘A Trip to the Moon,’ visual references to the cosmos and various representations of outer space in pop culture and history are present throughout the hotel’s art collection, alongside gestural and illustrative abstract works and vintage prints that add dimension, eccentricity, and texture to the visual narrative that marries southern charm with references to outer space.
